What is CNS Vital Signs Remote Testing?

CNS VS Remote Testing offers all the same functionality as the traditional in-office CNS Vital Signs assessments done every day in clinics across the world, but they are completed at a rural health clinic, client hospital or clinic, or the comfort of the patient's home or office. Remote and In-Office assessments is fully integrated into your CNS Vital Signs Account.

Patient or research subjects testing strategies can be easily custom configured from the CNS VS account. All assessments begin with a “Virtual Test Prep Guide” a comprehensive set of instructions, which can be accessed by test-takers with a desktop or laptop computer with a working keyboard and internet connection.

How does it work?

CNS Vital Signs registered 'USERS' need only to go to the upper right hand side of the CNS VS homepage and 'Sign In' to 'View Reports and Manage Account'.

(A) Once in your account, on the left side of the account webpage (1) CLICK the 'Generate Remote Test Code' button (see red arrow below).

(B) After clicking the 'Generate Remote Test Code' button you will be able to configure a 'Remote Testing' assessment by completing the Required Identification and Selecting the Test Settings.

Enter the 'Patient ID' (set a clinic policy for how you will identify your patients e.g., EMR unique identifier, etc.)
Set the Date-of-Birth (use drop down arrows)
Select the neurocognitive testing language
Select the tests and scales for an assessment. 'Test Panels' on the left can be custom configured for standardized testing
Generate a 'New Remote Test Code' by clicking the blue button

(C) After generating a new remote test code you will see the Test Code in the "Active Remote Test Code" Dashboard. Account users can then email the 'Remote Testing Code' to the patient or research subject enabling them to take their assessment.

Two Email Options

'Email Code from CNSVS Server' - This choice will send the Remote Testing Codes the email address specified. You can use this option if you do not want to customize your email to the patient or you do not have a local email client installed. This option will also send reminders to your patient. Reminder emails will be sent to the recipient 3 days and 6 days after the code is generated.
'Email Code from my Email Client' - This selection will auto-populate a message and open an email in your locally installed email client, such as Outlook, Apple Mail or Mozilla Thunderbird. This allows editing of the email subject and body should you want to personalize the message. This selection option does not work with browser-based email when sending a remote test code. Unfortunately, if you send through your local email client, for technical reasons, reminders cannot be sent.

Opened - Designates if the original email notification sent and viewed by the patient. Reminder emails will not be sent if the email notification was viewed by the patient.

Seven Days - Once a Remote Testing code is generated, the test-taker will have 7 days to successfully complete their assessment before the code expires. The date and time that the Remote Testing code will expire is listed in the Active Remote Testing Codes section in the Remote Testing page.

Key Advantage: CNS Vital Signs "Virtual Test Prep Guide" - When the test-taker is ready to complete their prescribed CNS VS assessment, their custom 'Remote Testing Code' can be entered on our Remote Testing site, testing.cnsvs.com, designed to instruct with an easy-to-read, standardized instructions, and an informational video and motivate a proper testing effort, which will provide you, the clinician, with accurate testing results. The Remote Testing site is available in multiple languages (English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese).

How are assessments added and used for CNS VS Remote Testing?

CNS VS Remote Testing requires the purchase of Online Assessments (testing sessions), which are also used for CNS VS Web Testing. These Assessments can be purchased centrally in your CNS VS Account and shared across all testing platforms; for 'Remote Testing', in-office web-based testing as well as in-office local software testing. Just click the 'Place Order / Purchase' button in the CNS VS Account.

Is CNS VS Remote Testing reimbursable?

Yes. Billing codes are widely reimbursed. Due to the COVID Pandemic most all standard billing codes are generally being allowed and reimbursed. Please check with your payer provider representatives for exact coverages.

When are Assessments deducted for testing?

Online Assessment test sessions are only deducted when an assessment has been completed in its entirety. If a patient is taking a CNS VS Remote Test and has an unlikely computer error (accidental closing of their internet browser, etc.) the system will recognize the testing session as incomplete and will not deduct an Online Assessment test session. If a Remote Testing code is generated, but expires before it is used, you will not be deducted an Online Assessment test session.

Incomplete tests will be marked with an 'N' in the Completed tab of the 'View Reports” page, which is accessed through your CNS VS account.

How can I tell if a Remote Testing code is still active?

Review the 'Active Remote Test Codes' Dashboard in the 'Generate Remote Test Code' webpage, the code is still active if the code is present on the dashboard. If it is not present on the dashboard then either

The 'Patient ID' would be in the 'View Reports' page as a complete or incomplete report
The code has expired.

What do I do if a Remote Testing code expires?

If a Remote Testing code expires, you must create a new code and send it to the patient in the same manner as the initial code. You will not be charged for the expired code.

We highly recommend reaching out to the test-taker to confirm that they have received the new code and to instruct them to ignore the old code if they still have it.

My patient didn't receive my email, now what?

Email is not a perfect system. It is possible that some of the emails could get directed to spam or might never make it through strict mail filters, like those commonly used in big corporations and universities. For this reason, we have built our new Remote Testing platform to allow clinicians to direct test-takers to a website for test administration. If the test-taker's code is still active, you can find it in the 'Generate Remote Test Code' webpage located in your CNS VS Account.
