CNS VS Remote Testing offers all the same functionality as the traditional CNS Vital Signs assessments done every day in clinics across the world, but they are completed from the comfort of the patient’s home or office. All assessment codes can be customized from the CNS VS account dashboard, with any number/combination of our objective subtests and rating scales. All assessments begin with a comprehensive set of instructions, which can be accessed by test-takers with a desktop or laptop computer with a working keyboard and internet connection.
For our users who are CNS VS Web enabled, Remote Testing codes can be customized and generated from 'CNS VS Remote Testing' page of the CNS VS account dashboard
The 'CNS VS Remote Testing' page can be reached from the account dashboard page after you log in to your CNS Vital Signs account
Remote Testing codes are created using the Generate Remote Testing Code section. Users can either send customizable emails from their own email client
Choosing 'Email Code from my Email Client' will auto-populate a message to be sent from the designated email client used by your computer's operating system (Apple Mail, Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.)
or can send a standardized message from the CNS VS mail server
Emails from the CNS VS Server are sent by firstname.lastname@example.org. We are not responsible for corresponding with patients and will direct all replies to the email address in your CNS VS account.
Once a Remote Testing code is generated, the test-taker will have 7 days to successfully complete their assessment before the code expires. The date and time that the Remote Testing code will expire is listed in the Active Remote Testing Codes section in the Remote Testing page.
When the test-taker is ready to complete their prescribed CNS VS assessment, their custom code can be entered on our Remote Testing site, testing.cnsvs.com, which has easy-to-read, standardized instructions, and an informational video.
CNS VS Remote Testing requires the purchase of Online Assessment credits, which are also used for CNS VS Web Testing. These credits are separate from Local credits that exist on the downloaded software version of CNS Vital Signs. Online Assessment and Local credits are both purchased from the CNS VS account dashboard.
Yes. While there is no billing codes for the 'administration' of neurocognitive, neuropsychological and behavioral assessments done remotely via computer, the 'evaluation' of assessment results e.g. interpretation, integration, clinical decision making, treatment planning and report and interactive feedback to the patient, family member(s) or caregiver(s), when performed should be covered.
Billing Codes 96116 (Neurobehavioral Status Exam, telemedicine approved) and 96132 are commonly used for evaluation and integration of patient results into the patient’s medical record. For more information you can view the CNS Vital Signs reimbursement guide in your CNS VS account.
Online Assessment credits are only deducted when an assessment has been completed in its entirety. If a patient is taking a CNS VS Remote Test and has an unlikely computer error (accidental closing of their internet browser, etc.) the system will recognize the testing session as incomplete and will not deduct an Online Assessment credit. If a Remote Testing code is generated, but expires before it is used, you will not be deducted an Online Assessment credit.
Incomplete tests will be marked with an 'N' in the Completed tab of the Reports page, which is accessed through your account dashboard.
If you see a code listed in the Active Remote Test Codes of the 'CNS VS Remote Testing' page, it has not been used. If the code is not present in that list, either:
1) The code has been used and would appear in the 'View Reports' page as a complete or incomplete report
2) The code has expired.
If a Remote Testing code expires, you must create a new code and send it to the patient in the same manner as the initial code. You will not be charged for the expired code.
We highly recommend reaching out to the test-taker to confirm that they have received the new code and to instruct them to ignore the old code if they still have it.
Email isn’t a perfect system. It is possible that some of the emails could get directed to spam or might never make it through strict mail filters, like those commonly used in big corporations and universities. For this reason, we have built our new Remote Testing platform to allow clinicians to direct test-takers to a website for test administration. If the test-taker’s code is still active, you can find it in the CNS VS Remote Testing page, accessible from your account dashboard.
